ADAM WACZYNSKI

We bring you last week’s top performances from Poles who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
   #1. This week’s number one is an international small forward Adam Waczynski (199-89, currently plays in EuroCup). He was the major contributor in an Unicaja Malaga‘s victory against the sixth-ranked Fiat TO crushing them 89-68 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night’s game.
Waczynski recorded 14 points and added 3 passes in a mere 18 minutes on the court.
Unicaja Malagais placed first in group G.
This year Waczynski averages: 9.6ppg, 2.4rpg, 2.1apg, 2FGP: 66.7%(14-21), 3FGP: 43.2% and FT: 84.6% in 10 games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Polish senior national team.
   #2. Second place goes to an international guard A.J. Slaughter (191-87, agency: BeoBasket, college: W.Kentucky, currently plays in France). Slaughter led ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket to a victory against the 14th-ranked Chalons-Reims (6-8) 91-84 in the French ProA last Saturday.
He recorded 18 points.
ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (11-2) is placed first in the ProA.
It was his team’s fifth consecutive victory in a row.
Slaughter has relatively good stats this season: 11.1ppg, 2.2rpg, 1.9apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 48.8%, 3FGP: 41.1% and FT: 78.6%.
He is a naturalized American.
Slaughter is in the roster of the Polish senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Poland.

   #3. The Polish player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Mateusz Ponitka (198-93, currently plays in EuroCup). Ponitka led his Russian team Lokomotiv to a victory over the leader ALBA Berlin 92-82 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night.
He was MVP of the game. Ponitka recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 26 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group F. Lokomotiv Kubanis placed second.
It’s Ponitka’s first season with the team.
This year he has relatively solid stats: 10.1ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 67.4%(29-43), 3FGP: 38.5% and FT: 75.0% in nine games.
Ponitka is also a member of the Polish senior national team.
   #4. An experienced power forward Maciej Lampe (211-85, currently plays in China) contributed to a Jilin Tigers‘ victory against the 16th-ranked Eagles (6-16) 124-116 in the Chinese CBA in Friday night’s game.
He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. Lampe also added 7 assists.
Jilin Northeast Tigers (10-11) are placed 11th in the CBA.
They ended the series of three consecutive loses.
Lampe has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 24.7ppg, 13.5rpg and 3.8apg.
Lampe has a dual citizenship: Polish and Swedish.
He is also Polish national team player.

   #5. Former international shooting guard Dardan Berisha (191-88, currently plays in Kosovo) was the main contributor in Prishtina‘s victory against the sixth-ranked Prizreni (5-8) 91-73 in the Kosovan Superliga last Saturday.
Berisha was the best player in that game. He scored 24 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 7 assists in 31 minutes.
Z Mobile Prishtina (13-0) is placed first in the Superliga.
So far his team won all thirteen games in the Regular Season.
The Regular Season already ended.
Berisha has very impressive stats this year: 19.9ppg, 4.2rpg, 4.4apg and 1.8spg in 13 games.
He is another player who holds two passports: Polish and Kosovan.
Berisha used to play for the Polish national team
three years ago.

   #6. Power forward Damian Kulig (205-87, also represented by BeoBasket, currently plays in Turkey) could not help one of league’s weakest teams Istanbul BBSK (5-7) in their last game. Despite his good performance Istanbul BBSK lost 84-89 on the road to the higher-ranked (#4) Turk Telekom.
Kulig scored 14 points in 31 minutes.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Kulig has reliable stats this year: 13.9ppg, 4.9rpg, 2.9apg and 1.2bpg in 10 games.
He is international player as he played for the Polish senior team one years ago.

   #7. Former international center Marcin Gortat (214-84, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Los Angeles Clippers in their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder (20-10) in the NBA.
Gortat scored 5 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
The Los Angeles Clippers (18-13) were defeated 110-104 in Oklahoma City by the Thunder.
It was Clippers’ fourth consecutive loss in a row.
Gortat’s overall stats this season are: 5.1ppg, 5.6rpg and 1.6apg.
He used to play for the Polish national team
three years ago.

   #8. Power forward Jakub Wojciechowski (213-90, currently plays in Italy) was not able to secure a victory for Happy Casa BR (5-5) in their game against Umana Venezia (8-2) in the Italian Serie A. Wojciechowski cannot count Sunday’s game as one of the best ones.
He recorded only one point and grabbed 6 rebounds.
Happy Casa BR was defeated 70-59 in Venezia by the second-ranked Umana.
It was Happy Casa BR’s fourth consecutive loss in a row.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Wojciechowski’s overall stats this year are: 3.1ppg and 3.1rpg.
He plays currently for the Polish national team.

   #9. International center Dominik Olejniczak (213-96, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Mississippi win their game against the Middle Tennessee State University 74-56 in the NCAA in Friday night’s game.
Olejniczak recorded 10 points in only 12 minutes.
The The University of Mississippi has conference record this season.
This year Olejniczak’s overall stats are: 5.9ppg and 2.9rpg in 10 games.
He used to play for the Polish national team
last year.

   #10. Forward Konrad Tota (196-80, college: Dickinson St., currently plays in Germany) helped Hertener Loewen win their game against the sixth-ranked Herford (9-4) crushing them 123-66 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) last Friday.
Tota scored 10 points.
Hertener Loewen Basketball (9-4) is placed third in West group.
Tota’s total stats this season are: 8.5ppg and 2.0rpg.
Despite he played previously for the Canadian university national team, Tota is also a former international player as fourteen years ago he still played for the Polish senior national team.

   #11. Former international guard David Logan (182-82, college: Indianapolis, currently plays in South Korea) helped KT Sonicboom win their game against the closely-ranked LG Sakers 91-76 in the South Korean KBL on Sunday night.
He scored 7 points in only 11 minutes.
Logan has very impressive stats this year: 17.5ppg, 2.7rpg, 3.8apg and 1.4spg in 17 games.
He is a naturalized American.
Logan used to play for the Polish national team
nine years ago.
He played also for WTK Anwil Wloclawek in Polish league.

   #12. Former U16 international forward Szymon Wojcik (205-99, currently studies in the States) couldn’t help the Missouri St. in their game against the Arkansas State University in the NCAA. Wojcik cannot count Tuesday’s game as one of the best ones.
He recorded only 2 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks in 16 minutes.
His team lost 63-71.
This year Wojcik’s total stats are: 5.2ppg and 3.0rpg in nine games.
He used to play for the Polish U16 national team
back in 2015.

   #13. Former U20 international forward Kuba Niziol (201-96, is currently at the American university) couldn’t help the Cal Poly – SLO in their game against the University of California in the NCAA.
Niziol recorded 5 points.
His team was edged 67-66.
He has averaged so far 6.3ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.6apg.
Niziol used to play for the Polish U20 national team
two years ago.

   #14. International guard Andy Mazurczak (188-94, college: Wisc.-Parkside, currently plays in Spain) couldn’t help Caceres Basket in their game against Ourense in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He cannot count Wednesday’s game as one of the best ones.
Mazurczak scored only one point. It was his first game for Caceres Basket this season.
His team was defeated 85-73.
He is a naturalized American.
Mazurczak used to play for the Polish national team
last year.
Apparently he has never played in Poland.

   #15. Former U18 international small forward Karol Majchrzak (195-97, currently plays in Spain) helped ULB OH!TELS edge the 16th-ranked Caceres 75-73 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Sunday night’s game.
He recorded 6 points.
Majchrzak has averaged so far 4.6ppg, 2.1rpg and 1.3apg.
He used to play for the Polish U18 national team
three years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Polish passport but never been selected to any of Polish national teams:

   #1. Dallin Bachynski (213-C-91, college: Utah, currently plays in Balkan League) led his Bulgarian team Beroe to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Teuta (4-2) crushing them 108-65 in the Balkan League on Tuesday night.
He recorded 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BC Beroe (4-1) is placed first in the Balkan League.
It was his team’s fifth consecutive victory in a row.
Bachynski has reliable stats this season: 13.8ppg and 9.6rpg.
He has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Polish.

   #2. Oded Brandwein (179-PG-88, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) led his Israeli team Ironi Nes-Ziona to an easy victory against the leader Balkan (2-0) crushing them 100-73 in the FIBA Europe Cup in Wednesday night’s game.
Brandwein scored 12 points and added 4 passes in 29 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group J. Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona (1-1) is placed second.
It was his team’s fifth consecutive victory in a row.
There are only four games left until the end of the FIBA Europe Cup Second Stage. So now every game will be critical.
This year Brandwein’s overall stats are: 6.7ppg, 1.8rpg and 3.0apg in 12 games he played so far.
He is another player who holds two passports: Polish and Israeli.
Despite Brandwein’s Polish nationality, he previously played for the Israeli U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Polish team.

   #3. Experienced Aleksander Lichodzijewski (204-PF-84, currently plays in Belgium) led Basic-Fit Brussels to a victory against the fifth-ranked Antwerp Giants (5-4) 86-79 in the Belgian Euromillions League last Sunday.
Lichodzijewski recorded 12 points and added 4 passes.
Basic-Fit Brussels (5-3) is placed in the Euromillions League.
It was his team’s third consecutive victory in a row.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Lichodzijewski is one of the most experienced players in a team as it’s his sixth year in Basic-Fit Brussels’ roster.
His overall stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 2.3apg.
Lichodzijewski has both Polish and Belgian nationalities.

   #4. Gal Gilinski (195-G-95, currently plays in Israel) was the major contributor in a 2-point Elitzur Yavne‘s victory against the league outsider Hasharon (2-8) 74-72 in the Israeli National League (second division) last Saturday.
Gilinski scored 17 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 35 minutes.
Elitzur Yavne (4-6) is placed tenth in the National League.
Gilinski’s stats this year are: 10.7ppg, 5.6rpg, 5.0apg and 1.3spg in 10 games.
He also holds two passports: Polish and Israeli.
Despite Gilinski’s Polish nationality, he previously played for the Israeli U20 national team and probably cannot be called to the Polish team.

   #5. Konrad Wysocki (202-F-82, college: Princeton, currently plays in Germany). Wysocki could not help Crailsheim Merlins (1-10) to beat EnBW Ludwigsburg (2-7). He cannot count Saturday’s game as one of the best ones.
Wysocki scored only 2 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
The bottom-ranked Crailsheim Merlins was defeated 82-70 on the road by the much higher-ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg (#7).
It was Crailsheim Merlins’ seventh consecutive loss in a row.
But the season is still in it’s first stage and everything can happen.
Wysocki has been at the team for four years.
His total stats this season are: 6.5ppg, 4.1rpg and 3.4apg.
Wysocki has dual citizenship: Polish and German.

   #6. Mariusz Markowicz (202-PF-86, currently plays in Ireland) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Swords Thunder 93-78 in a derby game in the Irish Super League last Saturday.
He recorded 14 points and blocked 2 shots in 20 minutes.
This year Markowicz’s total stats are: 7.3ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.6bpg and 1.4spg in nine games.

   #7. Nimrod Tishman (197-PG-91, currently plays in Israel) was not able to help Maccabi Rishon in their game against Bnei Hasharon in the Israeli Winner League. He cannot count Monday’s game as one of the best ones.
Tishman recorded only 3 points.
His team was defeated 74-67.
Tishman’s total stats this season are: 2.2ppg and 1.4apg.
He has Polish and Israeli nationalities.

   #8. Marcin Duda (183-PG-93, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Cartagena in their game against Gandia in the Spanish EBA (fourth division).
He recorded 5 points in 17 minutes.
His team was crushed by 27 points 91-64.
Duda has averaged so far 3.4ppg and 1.4rpg in nine games.

   #9. Thomas Szewczyk (187-G-92, currently plays in Germany) couldn’t help Schalke in their game against Kirchheim Knights in the German ProA (second division). Szewczyk cannot count Friday’s game as one of the best ones.
He scored only 2 points in 8 minutes on the court.
His team lost 74-80.
This year Szewczyk averages just 0.6ppg in eight games.
He holds both Polish and German passports.

   #10. Seid Hajric (204-C-83, currently plays in Germany) managed to help wiha Panthers Villingen-Schwenningen to win against the 11th-ranked Dragons Rhoendorf 73-65 in the German ProB (third division) on Saturday night.
Hajric recorded only 2 points.
He has averaged so far 3.8ppg and 4.0rpg.
Hajric has Bosnia and Herzegovina and Polish nationalities.
