Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool face a tough battle to have Dejan Lovren ready to face Bayern Munich.
The Croatian defender has been sidelined since the club’s defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup last month.
The Reds host Bayern in a weeks time and Jurgen Klopp’s defensive problems are continuing to mount.
Lovren fails to travel to Marbella with Liverpool
Lovren is a major doubt to face the German giants next week having missed the club training camp in Marbella.
The 29-year-old will remain at Melwood with fellow centre-back Joe Gomez to continue his rehabilitation.
With both players sidelined and Virgil van Dijk suspended, Liverpool will be very short of options in central defence.
This may force Fabinho to step in at centre back alongside Joel Matip.
Klopp told LiverpoolFC.com:
“Dejan is not here and Joe is not here.
“That’s never a good sign, I would say, but we will try everything to make Dejan available for Munich.
“It will be a tight race.
“For him, it makes sense in the moment to be in another place to do what he has to do.
“It wouldn’t have helped if he was here, so we will try everything – that’s clear.”
James Pearce predicts Fabinho-Matip partnership vs Bayern
Bad news on Dejan Lovren. Difficult to see him being ready for Bayern now. Hasn’t played since he limped off v Wolves on Jan 7. Liverpool had initially named him in travelling squad for Marbella. Could well be Fabinho/Matip at CB next Tuesday #LFC https://t.co/RC8gng6QEd
