Injury blow for the Toffees

Everton have confirmed that summer signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin suffered an injury in the lead-up to the Toffees’ clash with Aston Villa.

The French midfielder arrived at Goodison Park over the summer, signing from FSV Mainz in a deal worth £25million.

Gbamin was expected to replace Idrissa Gueye bu was thrust into action in Everton’s opening fixture with Crystal Palace due to an Andre Gomes injury.

The Frenchman then started the game against Watford last week, with the Toffees picking up their first points of the season with a 1-0 win.

However, Gbamin’s swift introduction to the Everton team looks to have taken its toll.

Gbamin suffers muscle injury

That’s because Everton have confirmed the midfielder has suffered a muscle injury.

Gbamin was expected to start the game against Aston Villa but was replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin following his return from suspension.

While the specific details surrounding his injury are currently unknown, Everton fans will be hoping it doesn’t keep Gbamin out for long.

Another player who fans were hoping to see on Friday was Moise Kean.

The Italian has impressed during his cameo appearances this season.

However, Silva has now confirmed the player isn’t quite ready to start for Everton.

“When he shows to me in training he’s ready and that he’s better than the others,” Silva explained, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“He’s a quality player but we have to give him time to perform in the way we want.”

Finally, fellow summer signing Alex Iwobi also missed out on a starting spot against Aston Villa.
