Tanguy Ndombele joined Lyon in July of 2018 from fellow Ligue 1 outfit SC Amiens.

Lyon are believed to have paid around £7.2m for Ndombele’s services.

That £7m appears to have been quite the bargain for Lyon as Ndombele was one of their standout stars throughout the 2018/19 season.

The 22-year-old featured 49 times for his club, scoring three and assisting eight.

Ndombele also impressed in the Champions League, particularly against Premier League Champions, Manchester City.

Man City were actually reportedly interested in signing Ndombele. But City now appear to be prioritising the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Rodri for their centre of midfield.

The Evening Standard have also reported that Ndombele is Tottenham’s main target this summer.

Now, on Tuesday the 25th of June, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has provided an update on Ndombele’s future.

Aulas did state that Ndombele would prefer to leave the club but it would have to be a substantial offer:

“It would have to be very substantial offers to advance with Tanguy , who would prefer to leave.

“If he left – which isn’t the case today – we would look to recruit someone with experience. For the moment nothing has happened, but the door is ajar.

“If Ndombele left, we have players to target and Thiago Mendes is one of them. Ndombele is pragmatic – he hasn’t said ‘I must leave tomorrow’.

“He is being chased by big clubs and when they come you have to listen. I haven’t spoken to him since his international duty.”As quoted by football.london.
