Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly concerned by his squad’s fitness as he attempts to secure Manchester United an unlikely top four finish.

The Norwegian has largely seen an upturn in form for the club with their hopes of qualifying for Champions League football seemingly over when Jose Mourinho left the club.

However, recent fixtures have seen United struggle to maintain their incredible start under Solskjaer and it could be that fitness has played its part.

The former Molde man has had to navigate through an injury crisis which many believed was due to his high-tempo tactics and the players’ low work-rate.

Mourinho often played on the back-foot with little to no tempo so it makes sense the squad are struggling after being dragged in the opposite direction by their new manager.

According to The Independent, Ole and his staff feel the drop in performance levels is directly linked to the players’ fitness levels which has caused them to not quite suit his intense style.

The issue is that the club legend can’t afford to backtrack or temporarily switch tactics again at such a crucial time of the season.

The Manchester United squad clearly need a pre-season to get used to Solskjaer’s methods but for now they’ll have to somehow hold on and secure a much-needed top four spot.
