22-year old power forward Jose Miguel Perez (202-PF-96) had a great game in the last round for Real Canoe and receives a Interperformances LEB Gold Player of the Week award for round 14. He had a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds, while his team lost the game against Palma (#9, 7-7) 67-75. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Real Canoe maintains the 12th position in Spanish LEB Gold. Real Canoe is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. But it was their 8th lost game this season out of 14 games. It’s Perez’s second year at Real Canoe and it’s hard to imagine this team without him. Perez has impressive league stats. He is in league’s top in points (3rd best: 17.8ppg) and averages solid 53.3% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Carles Bivia (189-PG-85) of Palma. He is a guard in his 3rd season at Palma. In the last game Bivia recorded impressive 22 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course Palma cruised to a 75-67 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Real Canoe (#12, 6-8). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Palma managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 9th place. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 7-7 record is not bad and everything may still change. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Alvarado could help Valladolid to bring them higher in the standings. Alvarado has a great season in Spain. Experienced American Ryan Toolson (193-G-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Manresa and that’s him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 13. The 33-year old guard had the game-high 29 points for Manresa in his team’s victory, helping them to beat Obradoiro (#11, 5-8) 97-90. Manresa maintains the 6th position in Spanish Liga Endesa. They would have been even better if they hadn’t lost a few games earlier this season. Manresa will need more victories to improve their 8-5 record. In the team’s last game Toolson had a remarkable 80.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Manresa’s top player in his first season with the team. Ryan Toolson averages this season 12.6ppg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round’s games was 24-year old international guard Dario Brizuela (196-G-94) of Estudiantes. Brizuela impressed basketball fans with 31 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Estudiantes was edged by the higher-ranked Valencia (#5, 8-5) 83-79. Estudiantes are still at the very bottom. 9 lost games are too many comparing to just three victories Estudiantes managed to get this year. Brizuela is one of the most experienced players at Estudiantes and has a reputation of one of team’s most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.5ppg (#7).
The third best performed player last round was Nigerian Stan Okoye (198-G/F-91) of Zaragoza (#7). Okoye scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was a key player of Zaragoza, leading his team to a 71-69 win against the lower-ranked Gran Canaria (#17, 4-9). Zaragoza needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 7 victories and 6 lost games. Okoye has a very solid season. Unicaja Malaga managed to win fourth quarter 18-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening.
