Premier League round-up

Match week five of the 2019/20 Premier League season was exciting as ever.

Liverpool went into the weekend the only side in the PL to have won their opening four games.

That record continued as Liverpool saw off Newcastle, whilst Liverpool’s rivals Manchester City dropped points.

City would lose 3-2 to newly-promoted Norwich.

Elsewhere in the league, there was some high-scoring action as Chelsea beat Wolves 5-2.

Wolves and Watford also remain the only two sides yet to have picked up a win in the English top-flight this campaign.

Aston Villa vs West Ham was the final game of MW5 with that tie ending 0-0.

With the weekend’s action over, the Premier League have on Tuesday, announced Alan Sherer’s Premier League Team of the Week for match week five.

As mentioned above, Norwich would pull off a huge upset on Saturday, beating Man City.

So, it isn’t too much of a shock that Shearer has included Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia, who got two assists vs City and Jamal Lewis in his TOTW.

Tottenham would get the most players, three, in Shearer’s Team of the Week after they smashed Crystal Palace 4-0 on Saturday.

Serge Aurier, Heung-Min Son and  Toby Alderweireld were the players from Spurs nominated by Shearer.

From Liverpool, Sadio Mane, who scored a brace vs Newcastle and Roberto Firmino, who changed the game when he was brought on were also named in the TOTW.

The rest of Shearer’s squad is made up of Tammy Abraham, who scored three vs Wolves, Harry Maguire, who helped Manchester United keep a clean sheet vs Leicester and Angus Gunn and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg of Southampton.

Norwich’s Daniel Farke was also named Shearer’s manager of the week.
