Officials found Wasim Akram’s body in the woods in Northern India after what was the third killing by the same leopard in the past two months. The leopard is being hunted by officials in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, and have “elimination orders” from the state government. Jammu regional wildlife warden Tahir Ahmad Shawl told the AFP: “The leopard was spotted this morning but we could not trap it.”

Authorities have given people in the area advice on staying safe from attacks.

Mr Shawl said: “This is a forecasted area and humans have entered into their habitat and not the other way round. Therefore these incidents happen.”

In December an eight-year-old boy was mauled to death by the same leopard in the same area.

Last week a leopard killed a Buddhist monk while he was meditating in a protected forest in India.

There are an estimated 12,000 to 14,000 leopard in India, with attacks being a common occurrence.

According to the Indian Government human-animal conflict is seen across the country in different forms.

These include monkey’s, crop raiding by wild pigs, and death by tigers, leopards and other animals.

The Indian Government said the intensity of the conflict is more likely to happen outside protected areas.

They also confirmed that there has been a recent increase in “human-animal” conflict.

This was attributed to an increase in wild animal population, changes in cropping patterns, and fragmentation of habitats.

They also said that wild animals have adapted to living closer to humans.
