Arsenal manager Unai Emery has this evening discussed the possibility of summer signing Nicolas Pepe earning a start in the club’s upcoming meeting with Burnley.

Arsenal vs Burnley

The Gunners are set for their first taste of action at the Emirates this season on Saturday afternoon, when they welcome Sean Dyche’s men to north London.

The Clarets got their campaign off to a hugely-impressive start last weekend, in putting 3 past Southampton without reply.

Ashley Barnes proved the start of the show, notching a brace shortly after the hour mark at Turf Moor.

Arsenal, meanwhile, also got their season off to an ideal start, with an away win over Newcastle.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged the only goal of the clash, as Unai Emery’s men matched their away clean sheet tally from the entirety of the 2018/19 campaign in just one outing:

‘Getting better’

Arsenal’s victory at St. James’ Park also saw fans of the north Londoners treated to their first glimpse of a trio of the club’s summer signings in competitive action.

The three players were Dani Ceballos, Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe, with Unai Emery having introduced his latest crop of recruits off the bench over the course of the final half-hour versus Newcastle.

One of the aforementioned trio who appears to be inching closer to his first start in the colours of the Gunners, though, is Pepe.

When drawn on the possibility of club-record signing Pepe featuring from the off against Burnley in two days’ time during a press conference this evening, Unai Emery confirmed that the Ivorian attacker is ‘more close to helping’, on the back of his impressive cameo last weekend:

‘I am going to decide on Friday because now is a small difference for my decision about the player. It depends how they will be tomorrow in the training. But Pepe is training with us, is improving with us, is knowing us, our idea, our style, is able to understand his team-mates better. Physically also, getting better. He’s more close to helping us than he was at the beginning, after giving us an impact during the match.’
