Kamaru Usman has surgery, vows to put beating on ‘you know who’
Kamaru Usman underwent surgery on Tuesday.
The newly crowned UFC welterweight champion reportedly took care of his double hernia in a procedure done at a Philadelphia hospital, then gave a still-groggy greeting to his fans via Instagram as he was just coming around.
MMA Junkie was first to report the news.
“I thought this was going to be like, I had knee surgery before, I thought this was going to be like that,” Usman said. “This ain’t that at all. At all. This sh*t different.”
Usman won the title with a dominant performance at UFC 235, taking the belt from Tyron Woodley via unanimous decision on scores of 50-45, 50-44, 50-44. That marked Usman’s 10th victory in as many UFC fights.
There’s no timetable yet on a return to the cage yet for Usman, who has made plain his desire to fight top contender Colby Covington, with whom he had an incident at a Las Vegas casino buffet following his victory over Woodley.
“I’ll be back in no time, and putting a beating on you know who,” Usman said.
